Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado
Where mountains meet a vast expanse of rolling golden sand dunes, Great Sand Dunes National Park might have you questioning where you are. Take a trip out to the park and allow yourself to be mesmerized by the unique contrast provided by the landscape.
Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska
Located 12 miles outside of Alaska’s capital, Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier; a 12-mile long glacier that doesn’t truly reveal its beauty until you are inside of it. For those of us with the strong urge for adventure, you can get to these surreal caves via kayak and climbing the glacier with special equipment. Once inside, you’ll be greeted by a cool blue glow and an experience unlike any other. But be warned; with climate change, the glacier has been melting and retreating faster than normal, making the integrity of these caves unpredictable and therefore dangerous.
Crater Lake, Oregon
Amongst the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon lies Crater Lake; an incredible body of water formed from rain and snowmelt collecting inside the mouth of a volcano that erupted 7,700 years ago. The result is a stunning lake contained atop a mountain with views that reach for miles. The area is a protected national park but is open to visitors all year round, weather permitting of course.
Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada
Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall, Lake Tahoe’s beauty never seems to fade. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range along the California-Nevada Border This area has just about everything; blue waters, sandy shores, lush evergreens, and snow-capped mountains. Whichever season you choose to visit in, there is always natural beauty to be appreciated, and plenty of activities in which to enjoy it!
Big Sur, California
Containing one of the most breathtaking stretches of road in the United States, Highway 1, Big Sur is nothing short of spectacular. To the east, you can enjoy the naturally abundant Santa Lucia Mountain range, which is predominantly protected and maintained by national and state parks services. To the West, you may gaze off of sheer cliff faces onto the vibrant blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. With Highway 1 reopened after landslide damage, there is no better time to explore this beautiful area of California!
White Mountains, New Hampshire
Home to Mount Washington and the White Mountain National Forest, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are a must see when traveling through New England. In the fall, the mountains are ablaze with splashes of yellow, orange, and red as far as the eye can see, making for some of the most majestic views New England has to offer. But whichever season you decide to visit this beautiful forest, you can always find a way to soak in its elegance.
