5 Tips To Stay Healthy On Vacation
It’s easy to leave all your healthy habits back home when you go on vacation. The healthy breakfast, sensible lunch and light dinner are forgotten. Instead, you indulge in the buffets and the restaurants to the point where you need to head back to the room for a snooze.
We’ve been there and we get it. Vacation is meant to be a time of relaxation and indulgence. Having to watch what you eat when trying to relax can seem seem stressful and difficult. That’s why we put together these tips to help keep you on the right track, without interfering with your getaway!
1. Don’t Wait Until You’re on the Road or in the Terminal.
Maintaining healthy habits while on vacation is all about planning. If your first stop for food is at a gas station 30 minutes down the road, or at the airport terminal, you’re setting yourself up for failure! These places have a ton of tempting unhealthy options, which makes it difficult for you to choose the apple instead of the bag of candy.
Instead, make a list of healthy and portable snacks that you can pack with you before you leave and make a quick trip to the grocery store! Because you’ll already have healthy food on hand, you’ll be less inclined to wander the isles of the gas station or grab a greasy burger in the terminal.

2. Give Your Immune System a Boost.
Whether you’re traveling by plane, or packed tight in the car for a road trip, it can be easy to catch a bug when traveling. That’s why it’s always important to make sure you’re doing what you can to keep the germs away. The last thing anyone wants is to be sick on vacation! There are a lot of things that you can do to stay healthy, but here are a couple easy ones.
Multi-vitamins and vitamin C supplements are always a good foundation to help support your immune system, and can help supplement your nutrient intake while you’re on vacation.
The next thing you can do is bring some hand sanitizer or wipes. When you’re in close quarters with other people it is much easier to spread germs. Bringing a small amount of hand sanitizer (under 2oz if flying) or a pack of wipes can help stop the germs before they can get you sick!
3. Drink Water. Then Drink More Water.
You’re body is made up of over 60% water, so if you’re not hydrating, you’re not doing yourself any favors. Drinking water is your foundation for staying healthy, so it’s very important to be mindful of how much water you are drinking.
The best way to stay hydrated and avoid sugary drinks such as sodas or juices is to bring water with you! It can be easy enough to bring a jug of water for your road trip, but due to restrictions, you can’t bring containers of liquid over 2 ounces through TSA. You can work around this though. Drink a bottle of water before you leave for the airport and keep the empty bottle with you to refill at a water fountain after you pass through security!
